According to my understanding, It depends on where you are going to use those certificates for any reasons. IELTS is more acceptable in European continent and in Australia as well, whereas in the USA, TOEFL is favorable to be used. In addiction, TOEIC, which is also American English proficiency test, is very popular in Japan, that it seems to be important for their jobs' applications.
