Insurance Institute of India (III) conducts this exam every year, III established in 1955 for promoting the importance and educating people about it with proper training and guidance. It is the only qualified insurance institute with 91 associated institute – The Life Insurance Corporation of India, The General Life Insurance Corporation of India to name a few are some of the associated institutes’ spread across the country. The institute directs examination at 3 levels: Licentiate, Associateship, and Fellowship. In order to become an Insurance Agent one needs to pass IRDA IC38 i.e. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority which is an independent body for endorsing and regulating of insurance. Eligibility for IC38 is according to Regulation 4 of IRDA 2000, obliges for a 12th Pass as the minimum educational qualification for urban area inhabitants while 10th pass as the minimum educational qualification for rural area inhabitants. The minimum age limit is 18 years. You cannot directly appear for IC38, you need to be an insurer first at which you have to attend 50 hours training by IRDA to be called a Life, General or Health Insurance Agent, while for first timers, and it is 75 hours of training.
