Indian Bank PO Recruitment: Indian Bank PO Exam Details, Pattern, and Insights



All the young and ambitious candidates who are interested in making a career in banking must apply for Indian Bank PO (Probationary Officer) exam, which is conducted by the Indian Bank on an annual basis. The official notification is yet to be released by the Indian Bank, possibly in August. The candidates can apply for the same through the official website of Indian Bank by the end of the month of August 2020. The exam is held in three phases; first-Preliminary (online), second-Mains (offline), and lastly followed by an interview. The date of the Preliminary exam will be notified by the authorities in the coming days and those who qualify the prelim round will be eligible for the Mains exam which will be held on 26th November 2020. Then, the candidates who qualify the mains exam will go for the Interview. As per the eligibility criteria, the candidate must be an Indian citizen and a graduate (in any discipline) with minimum 60% marks in aggregate. The number of vacancies for the post of Probationary Officer is 417.

Indian bank has strictly declared that the mode of filling the application form is online and no other medium will be accepted from the 1st  week of Aug 2020 to last week of Aug 2020. Indian Bank PO Recruitment: Exam pattern for Prelims

  • Preliminary online test (CBT) will be of 100 marks.
  • The exam will have 100 MCQs type questions.
  • Total duration of the exam will be 60 minutes
  • Medium of language of the questions will be Hindi and English
  • Sections in the exam: Three
    • Reasoning for 35 marks
    • Quantitative Aptitude for 35 marks
    • English Language for 30 marks
  • Marking scheme: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer and 1 mark will allotted for each right. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.

Indian Bank PO Recruitment: Exam pattern for Mains Final

  • Mains online test (CBT) will be of 100 marks.
  • The exam will have 155 MCQs type questions.
  • Total duration of the exam will be 3 hours.
  • Medium of language of the questions will be Hindi and English.
  • Sections in the exam: Four
    • Reasoning and Computer Aptitude for 60 marks
    • Data Analysis & Interpretation for 60 marks
    • General/Economy/Banking Awareness for 40 marks
    • English Language for 40 marks
  • There will be separate paper for English Language (Letter writing and essay) which will have 2 subjective type question of 25 marks for 30 minutes.
  • Marking scheme: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each objective type wrong answer and 1 mark will allotted for each objective type right answer. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.

  • First- the candidates will have to appear for an Online Preliminary Test that would be of 100 marks.
  • Second- those who qualify the Preliminary Test will be shortlisted for Mains Test that would be of 100 marks.
  • Third- those who qualify Mains will be followed by Interview.

Interview:  Indian Bank PO Recruitment

The candidates who qualify the main exams will be shortlisted for the interview which will be conducted by the Indian Bank. The calling of the interview will take place through SMS or email. The interview centre, date and timing will be written in the call letter. The candidate can download the call letter for interview from the official website of the Indian Bank. The candidates need to bring all the original documents that will be mentioned in the call letter. The marks of interview will be 100. The minimum marks for qualifying the interview is 40% for General and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD. The final result will be based on the marks of Mains and Interview.

Preparation tips for Indian Bank PO Recruitment: For Prelim

  • You need to finish three sections of Indian Bank PO Prelims within 60 minutes, which means you need speed with accuracy in order to attempt 100 questions in total. The more you practice, the better chances you have of acing this exam.
  • Make mathematics and reasoning your strong subjects, practice questions to solve them within time to increase efficiency. You should lay emphasis not on mugging up the formulas but instead try understanding the concepts, so, you can modify the formulas according to the question requirement.
  • Remember negative marking is a factor here. Therefore, try not to attempt questions that put you in doubt. Although the prelim exam will be of just qualifying nature and won’t be considered for the final merit list as only Main exam marks will matter, you still need to secure the minimum qualifying marks in the prelims as set by the Indian Bank.
