NTSS Exam : Exam Pattern, Details and Insights



A National Level Examination- NTSS (National Talent Search Scheme) conducted by NCERT (National Council of Education Research and Training) to give the deserving candidates the scholarship. The candidates will be from the secondary school level. The exam is conducted in 2 levels: Stage 1 which will be a State Level Examination and Stage 2 which will be a National Level Examination. The candidate must have passed 12th class with minimum 60% marks. The Stage 1 exam will be held on November 3 and 15, 2020.

NTSS Exam : Important Dates

Scholarships Offered

  • Scholarship of Rs.1250/- per month for Class-XI to XII.
  • Scholarship of Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Post-graduates.
  • Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.

Eligibility for NTSS Exam

Nationality / Citizenship: The candidate must be an Indian Citizen.

Educational Qualification (Stage 1):

The candidate must have 12th or equivalent with 60% minimum percentage and 55% for ST/SC/PH.

Educational Qualification (Stage 2):

The candidate must have passed Stage 1 with 80% marks or above.

NTSS Exam : Exam pattern Stage 1

  • Offline test- Stage 1 will be of 200 marks.
  • The Stage 1 exam will have 200 MCQs type questions
  • Total duration of the Stage 1 exam will be 240 minutes
  • Medium of language of the questions will be English and Hindi
  • Sections in the exam: Two
    • MAT for 100 marks of 120 minutes
    • SAT for 100 marks of 120 minutes
  • There is no negative marking.

  • Offline test- Stage 2 will be of 200 marks.
  • The Stage 2 exam will have 200 MCQs type questions
  • Total duration of the Stage 2 exam will be 240 minutes
  • Medium of language of the questions will be English and Hindi
  • Sections in the exam: Two
    • MAT for 100 marks of 120 minutes
    • SAT for 100 marks of 120 minutes
  • There is no negative marking.

Preparation tips for NTSS Exam

·         You need to finish 2 sections of NTSS Exam within 240 minutes, which means you need speed with accuracy in order to attempt 200 questions in total. The more you practice, the better chances you have of acing this exam.

·         Remember negative marking is not a factor here. Therefore, try to attempt all questions.

·         Manage your time properly; give appropriate amount of time to each section. Try to improve your time by practicing as many online tests as possible.
