Eligibility for WBSSC

Nationality / Citizenship: The candidate must be an Indian Citizen.

Age of the candidate:

The candidate should be in the age group of 18 - 42 years.

 Age relaxation:

• Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe - 5 years
• Other Backward Classes - 3 years
• Physically Disabled Candidate - 8 years
• Ex-Servicemen (General) - 3 years
• Ex-Servicemen (OBC) - 6 years
• Ex-Servicemen (SC/ST) - 8 years

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or its equivalent. The course for graduation will depend on the post for which the candidate is applying.

WBSSC: Exam pattern for Clerk

• The written offline test will be of 45 marks.
• The exam will have 45 MCQs type questions.
• The total duration of the exam will be 60 minutes
• The medium of language of the questions will be Hindi and English
• Sections in the exam: Four

  • Current Affairs
  • Arithmetic
  • General English
• There is no negative marking.

WBSSC: Exam pattern for Group D

• The exam will have 60 MCQs type questions.
• The total duration of the exam will be 60 minutes
• The medium of language of the questions will be Hindi and English
• Sections in the exam: Three

Selection process: WBSSC

The selection process will be in two phases:

• Phase 1- Written Exam
• Phase 2- Interview

The candidates who clear the Phase 1, will be eligible for Phase 2.

Syllabus: WBSSC
Clerk

• General Knowledge: Questions will be designed to test the candidates General Knowledge of the environment around him/her and its application to society.

• Current Affairs: Questions will be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience. The Test will also include questions relating to India and other countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Literature, Culture, Geography, Economic Science, Polity, Indian Constitution and Scientific research, etc.

• Arithmetic: Questions of this component will cover number system including questions on simplification, decimals, Recurring Decimals, Divisibility, fractions LCM, HCF, Partnership, Average, Ratio and proportions, percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple interest, time and work, time and distance.

• General English: Candidates understanding of the fundamentals of the English language such as Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence structure, Synonyms, Antonyms and it is correct usage, etc. would be tested.

Group D Post:
 

• General Knowledge: Questions will be designed to test the candidates General Knowledge of the environment around him/her and its application to society.

• Current Affairs: Questions will be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience. The Test will also include questions relating mainly to the States of West Bengal and the other States of India especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture and Geography.

• Arithmetic: Questions of this component will cover number system including questions on simplification, decimals, fractions LCM, HCF, Average, Ratio and proportions, percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple interest, time and work, time and Distance.

Preparation tips for WBSSC Exam:

• You need to finish Four sections of WBSSC within 60 minutes, which means you need speed with accuracy in order to attempt 45 questions in total. The more you practice, the better chances you have of acing this exam.

• Make mathematics your strong subjects, practice questions to solve them within time to increase efficiency. You should lay emphasis not on mugging up the formulas but instead try understanding the concepts, so, you can modify the formulas according to the question requirement.

• Remember negative marking is not a factor here. Therefore, try to attempt all the questions.

• Manage your time properly; give an appropriate amount of time to each section. Try to improve your time by practicing as many online tests as possible.
