  • PCM, PCB or PCMB?

The simple answer to this question is: take biology for a career in medicine and opt for mathematics if you want to pursue engineering. And if you haven’t decided yet, then take both!
But the solution is always so straightforward or so easy! You have to think carefully before making a choice that can influence your career. Choosing the right subjects is an important decision. The selection must be based on your aptitude and passion towards a particular branch/field.

    When to opt for PCB?

If your passion is to be a doctor then you need to take Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (or PCB) as your main subjects in 11th. If you do not have much interest in engineering and you like studying Biology, then the medical stream is a good option for you. Similarly, if you are certain that Maths is not your cup of tea, then PCB is the way to go!
By discarding mathematics in 11th and 12th, options like architecture and all branches of engineering get closed automatically. So select PCB only if you hate maths and want to join the medical field.

    When to opt for PCM?

Do you like Mathematics? Do you enjoy solving various Maths problems? Is IIT your dream? Do you want to pursue a career in any branch of engineering? If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of the above questions, then PCM i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Maths is the choice for you.

By opting out of biology, all options related to the medical field get closed automatically. Certain branches of engineering like marine engineering, biomedical engineering, genetic engineering, etc. also require you to have biology as a subject in 11th and 12th.

    When to opt for PCMB?

If you are not so certain about your career path and whether you would like to pursue medicine, engineering or any other science course, then you can opt for both Biology and Maths i.e. PCMB.

You can give IIT-JEE and NEET at the same time after your 12th boards. Although it may be tough to study Maths and Biology combined, it is doable. Some students have cleared both the entrance examinations – JEE and NEET with good scores giving them more time to decide from a wider choice of career options.
