Overview
· Toefl is the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
· It is a standard test which a candidate can take if they wish to enroll in foreign universities
Eligibility
· You must have cleared 12th from a high-level institution with a recognized board.
· The fees for giving TOEFL varies from country to country
· For Indian candidates, this fee is 165$ which is approximately 11280 rupees.
· There are some conditions in which foreign universities do not need candidates TOEFL score.
Non-native speakers who hold degrees or diplomas from post-secondary institutions in English-speaking countries
Non-native speakers who have completed at least a two-year course of study in which English was the language of instruction.
Non-native speakers who have taken the TOEFL test within the past two years.
Exam Pattern
· In TOEFL the reading skill, writing skill, speaking and listening skills are tested.
· More than 10,000 colleges across 130 countries accept TOEFL score for admissions.
· The validity of TOEFL Score is 2 years.
· There are two ways in which a candidate can give TOEFL – Internet-based test and paper-delivered test
· There are four sections in TOEFL.
· First is reading which consists of 3-4 passages with a total of 50 questions and time allotted is 55 minutes.
· The second section is listening. These questions consist of 6-9 audio passages which will be played and the student has to attempt questions by listening to the passage. This section is 30-40 min long.
· The third section is speaking and consists of six tasks. In this section, the ability of a candidate to speak English spontaneously is tested. A candidate should be able to convey their ideas clearly and coherently.
· The last section is writing where taker's ability to write in an academic setting is tested.
Tips and tricks
· Dress comfortably for any room temperature.
· Eat a good breakfast.
· Arrive at the test center at least 30 minutes early.
· Follow directions carefully to avoid wasting time.
· Do not panic. Concentrate on the task in front of you. Do not think about the questions you have already answered.
· Do not spend too much time on one question.
· Do not leave questions blank. If you are not sure of the answer, make the best possible choice.
· Pace yourself to answer every question and avoid rushing at the end.
