Staff Selection Commission came into effect in 1977 to recruit candidates for the vacancies available in different ministries and departments by conducting examinations and interviews. Junior Engineer is an online as well written examination directed by SSC. The junior engineer works under the regulation of the Senior Engineer by taking orders. He has to work as and however the Senior Engineer wants, he does not have the freedom to do anything or make decisions. The minimum qualification is (B.E/B.Tech/ Diploma from an engineering field) i.e. Graduation from a recognized college by central or state government. The age limit varies from 21 to 32. The expected salary comes with 4200 as pay grade making 37000 as the salary of Junior Engineer be it Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Quantity Surveying and Contract Engineer.

SSC JE Exam Pattern:

SSC JE exam will have two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 where Paper 1 will be an objective exam for 200 marks and Paper 2 will be a descriptive exam with 300 marks. Paper 1 will be conducted in the online mode whereas offline mode is for the Paper 2, the provision of negative marking is applicable here only for SSC JE Paper 1, 0.25 marks will be deducted for the incorrect answers.

There will be in a total of 200 objective-type questions in SSC JE Paper 1 that will be given a time frame of 2 hours to solve them. The questions will be divided into 3 sections: General Engineering, (Mechanical/Civil/Electrical), General Intelligence, and General Awareness. The applicants applying for the post are required to choose one Engineering branch for both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

SSC JE Paper 1 has 3 sections, the exam will be the same for all the candidates for the two sections comprising General Intelligence and General Awareness questions but the section of general engineering will be different for the candidates as per the choice. The choice can be made at the time of filling the application form where they will choose from Mechanical, Civil or Electrical branch of Engineering to appear.

Staff Selection Committee conducts the National-level entrance exam for recruiting the candidates for SSC Junior Engineer Post (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Quantity Surveying & Contracts). The recruited candidates will be for Group-B Level 6 posts of the 7th Pay Commission.

The exam will be conducted from October 27 - 30 in the online mode for the 2019 notification of SSC JE recruitment process. The registrations for the SSC JE 2019 recruitment were started in the month of August on 13, and the last date to register as the eligible candidate for the post was September 12, 2019. The registered candidates will be able to download the admit cards before one week of the examination.

SSC JE Syllabus:

There is immense competition for the government jobs as the posts are limited and the applicants are so in a number that itself will give a headache. SSC JE Paper 2 Syllabus:

Paper 2 will be a descriptive paper with the candidate's choice (Part A, Part B, Part C) for the exam. It will test the detailed knowledge of the candidate about the subject. The paper will be of 300 marks with a duration of 2 hours.

SSC Eligibility Criteria:

The candidates who are willing to appear for the SSC JE recruitment exam should acquire a complete knowledge about the eligibility criteria. Staff Selection Committee releases the exam schedule, required eligibility criteria, the application process, and such information about the examination for the recruitment in the government sector.

The parameters that are set for the eligibility criteria are nationality, age limitations, and educational qualifications. The educational qualifications and the age limitation differ as per the required post, but the minimum general eligibility criteria for the entrance examination is as:

  • The mandatory educational qualification that is required for the SSC Junior Engineer post is that the candidate must have qualified BTech/ BE /3-year Diploma in the concerned branch of Engineering (Mechanical/Civil/Electrical)  from the recognized institution/University.
  • Experience is a factor for the post in Military Engineer Services (MES) as the candidate must have 2-year experience of work in the Mechanical/Civil/Electrical Engineering.
