Last year in the month of September, OIL AND NATURAL GAS CORPORATION LIMITED released the notification regarding the recruitment of Graduate Trainees in engineering posts on the basis of GATE 2019 scores. Only those candidates who have qualified the GATE 2019 examination would be considered for recruitment to the posts notified in the said advertisement. The GATE 2019 results are out. According to the ONGC Recruitment Advertorial 2019, there are 4014 vacancies available for the post of Graduate trainees in various engineering and geo-sciences departments. There are 543 posts for UR category, 268 posts for OBC, 148 posts for SC and 73 posts for ST category respectively. The final merit list for 2020 Recruitments will be based upon the selection criteria of ONGC, which gives 60 marks weightage to GATE-2018 Score, 15 marks for interview and 25 marks for qualification. ONGC has also notified that only 2019 GATE scores are valid for the said recruitment drive, 2018 GATE scores will be irrelevant. ONGC will commence the interviews from 20 july 2020. Also, it must be noted that the candidates who are selected after the recruitment can be posted in any part of India or abroad.

To apply for ONGC, one should be prepared for the interview by revising some of the subjects. The syllabus of the ONGC Company follows with 7 sections from where questions are frequently asked. The subjects are given below-

The written exam of the ONGC consists of two papers on the following subjects:
General Awareness and Subject Specialization
Here in the Paper 1: General Awareness There will be a total of 50 questions out of which 40 questions are to be compulsorily attempted. There will be objective type questions of 1 mark each and descriptive type questions of 5 marks each.
The questions could be of the following types: The judicial system of India constitutes how many judges? What will be the radius of the circle if it is inscribed in an equilateral triangle with sides 2 root 3 units? Etc.

Here in the Paper 2: Specialization Subjects
There will be a total of 75 questions from the subjects studied under specialization by the candidates.
The candidates must attempt 60 questions compulsorily for qualifying in this paper.
The pattern of the questions will be objective type and descriptive type both.
The objective type questions are of 1.5 marks each and descriptive questions of 5 mark each respectively.

Syllabus for Aptitude Test Section: Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, Data Interpretation, Comprehension based questions

Cover the syllabus fully without leaving any considerable portion, as it may turn out that many questions might arise from the units which we might have not touched.
2. Refer to standardtext books for the portion given. One good book for aptitude is the one written by the famous R.S Aggarwal who has comprehensively put the aptitude sections in lucid style.
3. For the English section and general awareness, along with any standard books, which are plenty in the market, refer to other competitive exam question papers as you would get a broad idea of what might be asked.
4. Practice as many problems as possible and cover as many different types and situations few problems as possible. This would enable you to comprehend the question asked quickly inshort time.
5. In exams like these, speed and accuracy hold the key. You have to enhance your speed of answering the question also you have to be accurate in answering the correct answers.
6. Refer to other exam question papers like the GATE/CSAT/Bank PO etc for both practice and to get an idea of what might be asked. The UPSC has a store of previous questionshosted on its website which is a good collection of English and Aptitude question papers.
Only those candidates will be entertained for recruitment to the 1032 posts for 4014 vacancies notified in the advertisement who have qualified in GATE-2019.
