  • Given data: length=3.3m,width=2.6m, height=1.1m Volume of cistern=8000 litres, thickness of walls is 5 centimetresbr /To Find- The thickness of the bottom of the tank=?br /We know that 1 litre=1000 cubic centimetres.br /Hence the length of cistern =3.3m=330cmbr /the width of cistern=2.6m=260cmbr /the height of cistern=1.1m=110cmbr /Now the walls of the cistern are 5cm thick, hence the inner length of the cistern is 330-10=320cmbr /and inner width of the cistern=260-10=250cmbr /Now the total volume of the cistern is 8000litres = 8000000 cubic centi-metresbr /8000000=320*250* Xbr /Let X be the internal height of the tankbr /8000000=80000*Xbr /X=8000000/80000br /Hence X=100 centimetresbr /Thus the thickness of the bottom is 110-100cm=10cmbr /The thickness of the bottom is 10 centimetres.

  • The thickness is given as 5 cm and the dimensions given are external dimensions so in order to get internal dimension we subract the external dimensions by thichness on both sides so 5*2=10 i.e 1 dm
