DU LLB Entrance Exam, Exam Pattern, Insights and Previous Year Papers



DU LLB Entrance Exam is one of the most important university-level-entrance-examinations for admissions to Law UG and PG courses offered by the University of Delhi. Every year, it is conducted by the faculty of Law of Delhi University where they shortlist candidates for the three-year LLB Programme in three DU colleges - Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, Law Centre-I, Faculty of Law and Law Centre-II, Faculty of Law. The number of seats offered was reduced to 1440 from 2310 in 2016. The total number of seats available for admissions will be notified once the Examination information is released by faculty of Law, DU. Candidates have to first register themselves online by filling the DU application form for taking this exam, which is conducted in offline mode. The test centers for DU LLB Entrance Exam have not been announced. Generally, this exam is conducted across India in cities like Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Nagpur. Candidates will be given two hours to finish the DU LLB Entrance Exam that will contain 100 MCQ type questions. The results will be declared, tentatively, by the second week of July and the counseling sessions should start sometime later in the same month.

DU LLB Exam Pattern:

Delhi University conducts the DU LLB entrance test every year to offer admission to the aspirants who are seeking admission to the undergraduate Law program. The exam pattern of DU LLB has been changed in 2017. The online computer-based test will have 100 MCQs that are required to be solved in 120 minutes. The exam will be for 400 marks. The questions will be asked from the 4 sections: English, General Awareness, Legal Awareness, Aptitude.

Delhi University is the public central university in India that is considered one of the top universities in India. College life and quality education are the two aspects that students consider it the most for admission. The admission in DU is mostly according to the merit scored in the 12th standard and even for postgraduate courses, the merit in graduation is a criteria for the admission. Law admission is entirely based on the entrance test.

The Law aspirants consider the DU LLB entrance test as one of the important Law entrance tests as BHU LLB. The National Testing Agency NTA on the account of Delhi University conducts the Law entrance test to offer admission to the candidates at the three Law centers, Campus Law Centre (CLC), Law Centre 1 (LC1), and Law Centre 2 (LC2).

The 3-year LLB Entrance Test is a computer-based test that will be conducted at different test centers across 18 cities. The total number of seats available in all the test centers are 2922. The General category candidates will have about 1167 seats to compete for. The applicants must have a graduation degree to be eligible for LLB.

The online applications for the DU LLB Entrance Test have begun from June 20, 2020, and the last date to submit the application form has been preponed from July 20 to July 04, 2020.  The examination date is not yet declared as the COVID-19 Pandemic is grabbing the new heights every single day. The tentative date for the online exam is expected to be conducted in the month of August.

The entrance test will test the capabilities of the applicants in various fields such as English language, analytical abilities, and general knowledge. The applicants might face some troubles while going through the legal terms. The complete syllabus for the DU LLB Entrance Test is:

  • English:

In the English section, there will be an unseen passage/ comprehension from which the questions will be asked. The questions will be asked from Jumbled words/sentences fill in the blanks, Incorrect sentences, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, word meaning, spelling error, one-word substitution, and much more topics.

  • Analytical Abilities:

The analytical capability of the candidate will be asked from the following topics: SeriesBlood RelationsDirectionsCritical Reasoning, SyllogismAnalogy, logical reasoning, coding-decoding, Percentage, Profit and loss, Number system, Average, Algebra, AP and GP, time, speed and distance, probability, missing numbers, mensuration.

The questions from the Constitution, Preamble and its structure, sections and schedules, IPC and the CrPC, Torts, Vicarious Liability, Strict Liability, Law of Crimes, Contracts and Constitutional Law, International Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Legal Awareness covering Constitutional Law and Polity, Legal Maxims

DU LLB Important Dates:

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the dates for the DU LLB Entrance test have been rescheduled. The exam will be conducted by the National Testing Agency in the online mode. The test will be a computer-based test in which the candidates have to go to the allotted exam centres and appear for the examination.

  • The application forms have begun from June 20, 2020

  • The last date to submit the DU LLB Entrance Test application is July 04, 2020.

  • The date for the admit cards is yet to be announced.

  • The Online DU LLB Entrance Test is expected to be conducted in the month of August 2020.

  • The answer key will be released once the exam will be successfully commenced.

  • The final merit list will be declared on the official website of Delhi University and the admission process will be according to the cut-off.

  • The counselling dates will be notified after the declaration of the result, the counselling rounds will be according to the categorical cut-off.

DU LLB Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria for any of the entrance exam is comprised of 3 factors: Nationality, Age Limit and Educational Qualifications. The Delhi University LLB Eligibility Criteria is mentioned here:

  • The candidates must have qualified Bachelor’s degree/Postgraduation degree exam with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized institution/university.

  • There is no age restriction to appear for the LLB Entrance Examination.

  • The relaxation in the category of marks for the various categories are mentioned here:

    • General Category: 50%

    • SC/ST: 40%

    • OBC: 45%

    • Persons with Disability (PwD): 45%

    • Children/ Wives of Army (CW): 45%

DU LLB Counselling/Cutoff

Those candidates who qualify the DU LLB exam will be shortlisted for the future counselling sessions, provided these candidates also make it to the merit list (cutoff) that will be based on factors like ranks achieved, the performance of the candidates in exam and availability of the seats. Before counselling sessions start, every candidate is required to fill, Law Centre Option-Cum-Undertaking form (mandatory). The counselling session will also ask for verification of individual candidate documents and after the document, scrutiny candidates will be offered seats in the LLB course offered at Delhi University.

Tips to crack DU LLB Entrance Exam:
 
You need speed to finish DU LLB Entrance Exam within the prescribed time limit. Go through the topics in the Syllabus and start with the ones that you are good at. Practice Writing/Language and mathematics problems by memorizing formulas.

  • After each study session keeps 1 hour for revision of topics learned/practiced.

  • Make mathematics your strong suit, practice questions to solve them within time to increase efficiency. The trick here is to mug up math formulas by heart, so they come in handy while solving a problem.

  • Become smart by attempting questions that you are sure of first, then come to the questions you’re in doubt. But don’t attempt them anyway, remember negative marking is a factor here. Therefore, attempt only those questions that you are sure of.

  • Manage your time properly; give an appropriate amount of time to each section. Try to improve your time by practicing as many online tests as possible.
