Because it is found under the ground, a common misconception is that the rhizome is part of the root. However, it is actually a stem that grows beneath the surface of the ground.
Rhizomes play a crucial role in propagation and reproduction because they have the capacity to invade the space next to the parent plant, consequently encouraging the appearance of fresh new shoots.
