What is the difference between LAN And WAN?

What is the difference between LAN(Local area network) And WAN(Wide area network)?

LAN=Local Area Network refers connection of many computers of an local area like schools,offices,etc. Whereas WAN=Wide Area Network refers connection of many computers of a city,town,etc.
