The UGC NET eligibility criteria 2020 is different for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Assistant Professorship. At the time of filling the online form, candidates need to specify whether they want to apply only for Assistant Professorship or both. However, the educational qualification requirements are same for both.
•Candidates belonging to the general category must secure at least 55% marks in their Master’s Degree or an equivalent examination from recognized universities in Computer Science, Social Science, Electronic Science, etc.
•Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD or transgender community are required to score at least 50% marks for the same.
•Pupils who are waiting for the result of their Master’s Degree or whose qualifying examination has been postponed can also apply.
•However, the above mentioned pupils will only be granted provisional admission and be considered for JRF or Assistant Professorship only after passing the Master’s Degree with at least the minimum required marks as mentioned above.
•Such candidates will have to clear the Master’s Degree examination with the minimum required marks within 2 years from the date of announcement of the UGC NET 2020 Result, failing which they shall be deemed as disqualified.
•Pupils having a PhD degree who have completed the Master’s Degree or equivalent examination before September 19, 1991 (regardless of the date of declaration of result) are eligible even if they have scored only 50% aggregate marks in the said examination.
•It is advisable to choose the same NET subject for paper 2 as the specialization of the candidate in Post Graduation degree. However, if you are unable to find the specific subject among the list of 81 subjects for Paper 2, then you can opt for a related subject.
