higher is compaction effort higher is dry density, but we can not remove 100 % air void . as we apply more effort then flocculated structures change into dispersed structures which increases the dry density...

by compacting you are reducing amount of pores. thus amount of water content that can be carry by dry soil is also reduce. and we know dry density is inversely prap. to water content.

If the compaction effort is high it's results high dry density. Its shows impact proportionally on soil with in limits

emcompaction is very less because in dry density the pores are very less and so the effect of compaction on dry density is less.../em

strongDuring /strongstrongcompaction/strongstrong the reduction in volume is mainly due to /strongstrongexpulsion/strongstrong of pore air and rearrangement of particles resulting in their closer packing/strong.br /br /Compaction of a soil mass results in increase in dry density. The dry density attained depends on water content, amount and type of compaction. The amount and type of compaction determine the compactive effect.br /br /For a specific amount of compactive energy applied on soil, the mass attains maximum dry density at particular water content. This water content is referred to as strongemoptimum water content/em/strong.
